He is also a founding member of pop-funk band, The PitchPockets. Vance is currently based in Nashville, TN where he obtained a degree in Commercial Music with an emphasis in Composition/Arranging from Belmont University and writing, performing, and recording on a regular basis.

Originally from the rolling hills of Wheeling, WV, Vance was born into an artistic and musical family. His father is a professional bassist, and he has memories from early childhood of sitting in rehearsals late at night with his father’s various bands, playing everything from country to Top 40 to steel drum music. His mother, always the performer, has a knack for drawing the attention of a crowd with interests in public speaking and acting. His younger brother is a woodwinds specialist studying Music Education at West Virginia University.

Vance’s musical journey began with the piano at age 5. While he enjoyed learning the piano, at the time, he was really only taking lessons to satisfy the request of his father to start on piano before learning the guitar. Vance’s dad insisted he learn how to read music and attain a basic understanding of music theory before even touching the strings. When he was 8, he picked up his first musical love, the electric guitar.  He spent his early years on the instrument learning and digesting the music of revolutionary artists like Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, and Stevie Ray Vaughan. In middle school, Vance began singing in choir and playing percussion in concert and marching bands, and began playing guitar in the school’s jazz band.

It was in high school that Vance’s love of music flourished into a passion and a drive to make a career out of it. Picking up even more instruments in the double bass and the steel drums, he joined every musical ensemble his school offered including jazz band, marching band, concert band, string orchestra, steel drum band, and chamber choir. During this time, his affinity for styles such as jazz, fusion, funk, soul, and R&B became more prominent, and he started to focus on these as a guitarist. High school was also the beginning of his love for composing and arranging, writing charts for small groups of friends and his high school’s big band, marching band, and orchestra.

Through all of these groups, Vance gained a massive amount of performance experience and developed an energetic, eye-catching stage presence. In his live outings, he loves dancing and putting on a show that is sure to make audiences smile. His playing style is currently inspired by artists like Prince, Isaiah Sharkey, George Benson and Cory Wong as well as studio staples like Steve Lukather, Mike Landau, Ray Parker Jr. and Carl Rydlund. He also has over 5 years of experience as a private guitar instructor.

Vance will graduate from Belmont in May of 2023 and plans to stay in Nashville in the following years. He will continue to focus on delivering memorable, professional quality performances and recordings as well as delve into the world of composition for visual media. He aspires to wake up every day with a different job to do, scoring a film or video game one day, playing a live show the next, cutting tracks in the studio the day after that, producing an album with an artist on the weekend… you get the picture. Vance’s drive and his skill set lend themselves to a myriad of musical endeavors, and he is excited for what the future holds.
